Good vs Evil by Curlie-11 Good vs Evil by Curlie-11
So this is my entry for the wacom bring your vision to life contest.

the theme was good vs evil so that got me thinking about opposites and ying and yang and this is what i came up with

it took about 4 and a half hours and i used 2b,4b and 6b pencils, rubber, tissue and blending stump.

im not sure why there are weird dots on it they aren't there on the actual drawing

the two amazing photos i used as references were;

That's a really nice interpreation of the theme, I like the two references you chose a lot, they're quite fitting.
On the technical side, I think you could benefit from stressing the darks. Make sure that you use your softest pencils leads for the areas in the mouth, the nostrils and the background of the "evil side". Try to get it looking smooth by going over it again and again in different directions, blending in between. With many layers, you will get a deep black without any visible pencil strokes.
A remark on the hair of the "good side", in the reference it looks white, which would have been really fitting to your theme, I think. If you shade her skin a little darker, you can take pieces of a regular eraser with sharp edges to erase the strands of hair. like to use the easer at the end of my mechanical pencils for that, they work wonders.
I think the dots may come from dust on your scanner... ^^;

Thank you :aww: :hug:
so thats how people get really really dark areas :w00t:
i have tried to do the eraser thing before but it didn't work as well as i'd hoped
i think i might get some mechanical pencils because loads of people seem to use them.

I found out what the dots were. :giggle: they were little bits of red pastel off the picture of the joker i did!!! :nod:

You're welcome :meow:
yeah, the erasing technique takes some time getting used to, especially which eraser to use and how. But I think it's worth it, it's a basic part of drawing hair for me.
The mechanical pencils are really good for details since they have a fine tip which needs no sharpening. They come in varying thickness and softness, but I'm not sure whether you really need them... I like to use them for fine hair but other than that :shrug:
Hehe I was right :boogie:

Cool idea! If you scanned it, the dots could be dirt/dust on the scanning bed.

i found out what it was :w00t:
i dont know if you have looked but i did a painting of the joker and used a red pastel for his mouth and the dots were little bits of pastel that were left on the scanner.
